irst Health Trusts owe their existence to FileMaker.
Our client had been working for a large health provider just as computers begain to take hold in business.
However databases that could run healthcare businesses had yet to be created and so his employer simply bought an automotive one.
It meant that 'Car Make', was used to hold the customer's surname, 'Model their christian name and 'Engine capacity' their middle name.
It got more bizzare from then on; 'Service history' was of course medical history and 'MOT due' was the medical appointment date.
It would have been hilarious, if it weren't so serious.
Our client quickly saw the opportunity and created his own bespoke database using FileMaker and formed his own, now highly successful healthcare insurer.
My job was to add some polish and further useability.
